Background
Welcome to the California Office of Systems Integration (OSI) Best Practices for Systems Acquisition. The OSI has aligned its systems acquisition business processes with accepted industry best practices and methodologies such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Computer Society (IEEE), the International Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Additionally, the OSI has utilized an internal business process support group that assisted in the development of the templates, guidelines, and policies included in this web site.Site Navigation
The two Project Office Matrices selections on the left navigation bar are the heart of the Best Practices website. They provide the project office staff with specific requirements and methodology for the work to be done (By Function) and staff assignments (By Role) for any OSI project in any of the OSI System Acquisition Life Cycle phases. The Documents List provides an alphabetical listing of all the documentation that is required or produced by the project office team. Each of the listed documents comes in three forms: templates, samples, and tailoring guides. Documents are also linked to the appropriate areas of the Project Office Matrices.
The Topic List provides an alphabetical listing of related information that supplements the information already provided in the Project Office Matrices. Topics describe instructional or related materials that are not necessarily required, but provide context or background to our methodology. Topics may be either text explanations, links, or file attachments.
Definitions and Acronyms are listed alphabetically and provide descriptions and explanations of the terms and abbreviations used throughout this website.
